Today an envelope was sent home with your student's progress report in it. Progress reports are sent home 4-6 weeks out from the next report card. Please watch the video to learn more about the envelopes. In addition to this video I went into a little more detail about the progress report in the next video below. Specifically, our spelling program might be where you have some questions. | We are using Words Their Way, which is a word-study curriculum that individualizes learning and allows for targeting specific abilities in students to re-teach or accelerate their learning. In this program, students study words and phonics patterns that are at their developmental spelling level, as determined by the Elementary Spelling Inventory (aka a spelling test). Word study is the combination of phonics, spelling and vocabulary. |
There are 5 levels of spelling development, according to Words Their Way:
Emergent (pre-K-1st)
Letter Name-Alphabetic (K-2nd)
Within Word Patterns (1st-4th)
Syllables and Affixes (3rd-8th)
Derivational Relations (5th-12th grade)
At each level there are stages. Those stages are set by Early, Middle and Late.
Below is a layout of the different skills that students will study across the program.
